Coastal North Fellowship: Workshop With Kate Genever
On the 25th of Febuary we were joined by producer Hannah Kirkham and artist Kate Genever to bring us an on site workshop and discussion.
In this session we were joined by producer Hannah Kirkham, who is the for Solidarity Project Coordinator at the NewBridge Project in Newcastle and previously worked for Locus+, which is an a visual arts commissioning agency that works with artists on temporary public projects.
In the afternoon we were joined by artist and farmer Kate Genever, who shared her expansive and site-responsive practice with us; Kate runs a farm with her family and makes art in collaboration with others, often in rural communities. Her practice spans drawing, textiles, collaborative meals, events, and interventions, Kate also runs a notice board in her front garden as a site for collaborating with artists and the village where she lives.
Hannah led a session exploring how to take an idea or artwork into a public space and connect with an audience, she also shared case studies with the group from her experience working with Locus+; projects such as Tornado by Fiona Banner. With Kate we made lunch together, walked through Scarborough being attentive to our surroundings – listening, looking, smelling, documenting, overhearing, learning. We then continued to a collaborative expertise drawing together and creating a large concertina folded book from our observations.
