Creative Response to Andrew Omoding’s current exhibition
Blueberry artists and artist Sam Metz created a sensory response to 'Welcome to Me, Scarborough. To See and Hold My Work'
Last Wednesday artists from Blueberry Academy Scarborough, were joined by artist Sam Metz, for a creative session in response to Andrew Omoding’s current exhibition at Woodend, ‘Welcome to Me, Scarborough. To See And Hold My Work.’
The session started with some drawing, we looked at the lobster pots and how Andrew had wrapped wire and ribbons around the wood, we studied this wrapping and did some up-close drawings of them, thinking about small details.
Next we started constructing pyramids out of wood, before wrapping and decorating them with ribbon, string, tissue paper and masking tape like Andrew does in his work. It was interesting to see the different textures build up as we wrapped the structures and the different colours and patterns people were coming up with.
After lunch we joined our pyramids together to make one giant structure, balancing and securing each one on top of each other. It got taller and taller and managed not to topple over! Decorated lolly sticks were added as a final detail, which we had been wrapping in washi tape.
Alongside sculpture and wrapping, in his work Andrew is really interested in sound, and using objects and his voice to make different noises. Sam had set up copper tape which reacted with sound when touched, stamped on or lay on. Our voices were put into it making an exciting interactive collaborative work that responded and sat alongside the sculpture.
The sculpture is currently up in the gallery do pop down and see it!
