Sunday’s picnic and film screening!

On a run down on Sunday's queer infoshop activities...

Sunday brought us two Queer Infoshop events within one day. Our first, being our queer community picnic. Situated within our current ‘indoor-outdoor’space, the ethos behind this particular event was to explore how we share, but not just in a literal sense, share ideas, concepts, jokes, experiences…

Sunday was quite rainy, but that didn’t matter. The gallery transformed into a soft space, with blankets, cushions, throws, and the vibe was quite unmatched!

Next brought us our film viewing of 1993 queer classic ‘The Garden’ by Derek Jarman, I didn’t know really what to expect going in but I went in with no premature thoughts, as I’d never actually seen a Derek Jarman film before.

Understanding that Jarman was a filmmaker in a time of urgency in his life, makes his thoughtful but fleeting imagery more personally addressable and thought provoking. From an aesthetic point of view, you see anything that’s made with an analogue tinge to it and you experience an immeasurable dose of nostalgia and sadness.
