New Exhibition: ROOTED
Introducing our new exhibition at Woodend Gallery...
22nd June – 15th August 2024
Woodend Gallery, Scarborough
‘The ability to look deeply is the root of creativity.
Rooted: having developed from something
The established underground parts of a plant
Root comes from the Latin word radix, which means “starting point.”
To have anchorage and support.
Something that is an origin or source’
Rooted is a collaboration between Artist Kate Genever and several Art & Design students from Scarborough Sixth Form College, the exhibition is a collection of works and ideas, formed between Monday 17th to Friday 21st of June during an onsite residency at Woodend Gallery.
The five day residency, led by Kate, encouraged the students to explore the ideas and concepts behind the word ‘Rooted’ through process-led and experimental approaches to making, whilst utilising a range of materials and methods, in particular using clay, plants and recycled materials.
This has been our fourth year in collaboration with the Art and Design students at Scarborough Sixth Form College, offering young people a range of professional development experiences, creating alongside artists within a gallery space.
About Kate Genever
Kate Genever is an artist and farmer. As an artist, she works closely with communities over extended periods, to consider how we improvise and imagine in response to our immediate problems. As a farmer, she works alongside her family on their traditional mixed farm in Lincolnshire
