Free Workshop // Drop-in!

Summer last year, we posted a call out looking for people to get involved in putting together Scarborough’s very first community quilt. The quilt was in response to the theme of ‘Queer & Coastal’ and asked us to think about what we want to say and celebrate about our indentities. The quilt was then displayed in the exhibition Always Been Here at Scarborough Art Gallery from September 2023 to January 2024.

We were overwhelmed and overjoyed with the response to the exhibition, and especially to the quilt itself. It’s with that in mind, that we realised what the quilt really meant to our community. The quilt will be in display at Scarborough Library in their exhibition section from Saturday 7th September to Friday 4th October.

To kick off the exhibition, we are hosting another patch-making workshop; Crescent Arts staff will be there on hand to teach some basic sewing skills, if not sewing then gluing directly onto fabric. There will be a wide option of materials to use, loose fabric patches, glue, beads, felt, fabric pens, embroidery hoops, ribbons. The choice is yours! You can either take your patch home to keep, or donate it to the quilt to be sewn together

You don’t have to be technically skilled in textiles at all to be involved, just come along, make something and have fun! The workshop is free and drop in, so you don’t have to book a place either.
