ABOUT

A one-day symposium for creative people. Industry speakers, practical workshops, taster sessions and accessible networking. A day of connection, inspiration and learning in a relaxed and inclusive environment. All are welcome!

This one day symposium is aimed at creative people at any point in their career; whether a hobbyist wanting to start selling their work, a new graduate, a part-time professional or an established artist. It will also appeal to those in creative roles in the arts sector.

The day features guest speakers from across the industry as well as practical workshops and taster sessions designed to help you set up, be inspired, grow or refresh your freelance career.

Workshop style sessions include marketing, budgeting, and fundraising, all led by specialists, including team members from the Stephen Joseph Theatre and ARCADE.

Whether you are an established, mid-career or emerging artist this event is designed to support you and your practice and connect you with others in and beyond your creative community.

OUR TALK

Creative Connections Symposium has three in-conversation style panels to enjoy across the day in Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Jason Wilsher-Mills Artist in conversation with Victoria Bissett Director of Crescent Arts.

Jason is a disabled artist who creates sculptures, which are best described as ‘I, Daniel Blake’ meets ‘The Beano’. He uses both digital and traditional media to create brightly coloured and psychedelic work. He employs a palette inspired by the childhood comic books he read in the 1970s using humour to tell sometimes serious and challenging stories. His latest show ‘Jason Beside the Sea’ is showing at Woodend Gallery. Scarborough Museums and Galleries

Victoria is currently the Director Crescent Arts , a visual arts organisation established in 1979 by visual artists living and working in and around Scarborough. After studying Fine Art at Humberside University, her career has been mostly in the community arts sector, over the last 20 years she has been interested in working with artists to develop new approaches and projects that engage people in the arts.

We are so delighted that Jason will be joining us to talk about his work and artistic practice.
